bookings & practicalities
- 01I provide professional decluttering help in Brighton, Hove and the surrounding areas of Sussex. That means I work with you to decide what you want to keep in your home or workspace, and what is no longer serving you. maybe your spare room, garage or loft is fit to bursting. maybe you're downsizing or moving abroad. maybe you feel like your possessions are owning you and not the other way round. maybe you're great at sorting things but the bags never make it further than the boot of your car! If so, I can help. Once we've decluttered, I work with you to find better organisational systems for those things that are important to you. I also provide a packing/unpacking service for house moves.
- 02Decluttering is £40/hr, with a minimum booking of 2hrs (some exceptions apply, please see question below on working with clients with disabilities or chronic illnesses). To take away a car load for charity donation is £20. I ask that you provide visitors parking permits when required. I offer a discount on your first booking of 3hrs, and low-income discounts can be discussed (please see T&Cs).
- 03I recommend limiting each decluttering session to a maximum of 3hrs. Even with my support it can be tiring work, physically and mentally. Sessions of 2-3hrs ensure we keep the positive energy and enthusiasm flowing, while making great progress.
- 04It's hard to predict how long it will take to declutter a space until we have started working together. Many factors affect the speed and efficiency of decluttering, such as how sentimental the items are, or whether it is your first session and you are new to the process. Sometimes a single session is all it takes to break a cycle and feel empowered to continue on your own.
- 05I am always honoured when someone reaches out to me for decluttering help, but I also know that it is a big deal to invite a stranger into your home. The best way to tackle any worries and see how we can work together, is with a short free consultation. We will look at the space that needs decluttering, make a plan of action, and I might even give you some homework to do!
- 06I am sometimes able to sell items for you, which can be discussed during the consultation or decluttering session. Usually this would be just smaller items or clothing, and the sale is split 50/50.
- 07I am not generally able to remove items for the tip, landfill, recycling, but can take one car load for donation to charity shops for an additional £20. Please see T&Cs.
- 08Sorted is based in Hove, and covers the whole of Brighton & Hove and the surrounding areas of East and West Sussex, including Portslade, Moulsecoomb, Southwick and Shoreham-by-Sea. Do get in contact if you're a little further away and I'll let you know if I can help!
decluttering clients
- 01There are many reasons someone might hire my help: you're moving, renovating or downsizing you've had a major life change such as a new baby, bereavement or divorce you want to stop feeling overwhelmed you are neurodiverse and have executive function challenges you want to love your home again you have an illness or disability that means you need an extra pair of hands to do the heavy work you want your home to feel calm you have ADHD or AuDHD and need a body-double you're short on time
- 02Whether you live with a visible or invisible disability, please let me know if there are ways I can make our decluttering session work best for you. I will always work around a client's capacity and energy levels - for example timing sessions earlier in the day, making sessions shorter, or ensuring I do all the manual labour.
- 03For clients with ME/CFS, fibromyalgia, chronic pain, long COVID or other chronic illnesses I am particularly mindful of timing sessions around your energy levels, taking breaks whenever needed. Decluttering sessions are usually kept to 2hrs maximum, and for people with very low energy reserves I will do even shorter sessions. Remember that I am here to make your life easier, so leave any heavy lifting to me and let me know what I can do to make things work best for you!
- 04Body doubling is when we work on a task with someone else present. This helps productivity, focus, motivation and task completion. Where usually a body double might be a passive presence (simply sitting quietly in the same space as the person they are helping) when decluttering I am an active participant, helping to manage anxiety, and keep motivation and focus on the task. People with ADHD or AuDHD might find body doubling particularly helpful.
worries & fears
- 01You won't be! I will never judge you or your home. I understand how vulnerable it can feel to invite someone into your space and I do everything I can to make the process more comfortable. I treat all clients, their homes and their possessions with respect, kindness and professionalism. Check out my testimonials and Google reviews to see what my happy customers have to say.
- 02Absolutely not! I might ask questions or give suggestions, but the final decision is always yours. I will support you to create the space you want, where you can cherish those items that are important to you. As one client said about me "if after asking you various questions, you aren't ready to part with something, she is incredibly respectful and understanding"
- 03I am so sorry you feel this way! There is no reason to feel shame or guilt. There are so many reasons that someone might need to hire my help, including life changes, busy schedules, illness or being neurodiverse. I really want all my clients to be able to let go of those negative feelings that are not serving them. Getting professional help to declutter is not something to feel bad about - in fact you should feel proud that you are ready to invest in your own peace of mind, your time and your energy. Let's celebrate wanting something better, and being ready to let go!
